A prime example (pardon the pun) of a company flouting common standards of decency is Amazon.
The working conditions in Amazon's distribution centers are horrific. Workers have almost no breaks, even to visit the washroom, and must literally run about filling orders. The pay for this work is abysmal and the benefits are almost non-existent.
Many people shop with Amazon but I am not one of them.
I have boycotted Amazon because of these terrible working conditions, all while Amazon rakes in billions of dollars in profits. How difficult would it be to pay a decent wage while improving working conditions? Not very.
Does the boycott of Amazon by one person affect the bottom line of a mega corporation like Amazon?
No, probably not but for me it's the principle of it. I cannot contribute to the exploitation of people by shopping with Amazon because this is NOT RIGHT.
Boycotts are effective, and keep my conscience clear. If there is a company with whom you disagree about their working conditions or their effect on our precious planet, I urge you to consider boycotting them.
In addition to a personal decision to boycott, I suggest contacting the object of your boycott and informing them of your boycott. If enough people contact the offending entity then they may take action.
